Escalator Fire Shutters
A range of lateral rolling shutters designed to prevent the spread of fire or maintain security between floors in areas representing a fire risk such as shopping centres, hotels and large commercial properties. The shutters are designed to protect escalators as well as stairwells and can also be designed to protect glazed atriums with a horizontal shutter at each fire compartment level.

Dimensions:
Shutter length up to 6.5 metres - Coil box size: 1100 x 900mm.Shutter length 6.5-8 metres - Coil box size: 1200 x 1000mm.Shutter length 8-10 metres - Coil box size: 1300 x 1100mm.
Standard shutter width: up to 5000mm.

Drive Housing
12mm mild steel endplates with rolled steel angles to form an enclosed box which contains the drive roller and drive mechanism. Clad in fire resistant metal sheet with removable inspection covers for maintenance. The shutter coil box and side guides should be clad with decorative material after installation.

Curtain
105mm galvanised interlocking flat lath sections, each alternate lath secured both ends by steel end locks to drive the arrangement. Leading edge constructed from rolled steel angles with rollers for smooth operation.

Side Guides
Fabricated from mild steel, incorporating side restraints to maintain curtain position. The guides, if required, can be contoured to harmonize in with installation design.

Finish
The shutter curtain is supplied bright spangled galvanised. All other components are protected by rust inhibiting primer paint. Additional finishes are available on request.

Electrical
Standard voltage: 415V, 3 phase, 50 Hz. The electrical equipment can be rated to suit the power supply available. The supply should be provided by others and terminated in a switched isolator box next to the coil box housing. The motor position can be handed to suit the site conditions. A control panel is provided which is usually installed outside the coil box housing which typically will include the following features as standard:
Open, close and stop buttons.
Key switch test facility.
Connection facility to the building fire alarm system, typically requiring a normally open/normal closed volt free dry contact connection.
An audible warning of the shutter closing.

Safety
The following features are provided as standard:
Audible warning of the opening and closing of the shutter.
Variable time delay prior to closing.
Infrared photo safety beam designed to stop the shutter if the beam is broken for a pre-set delay prior to fully closing.

Options
Battery standby
Battery backup or alternative powered systems to the standard range are available. Where a battery operated system is provided, the battery system should normally be housed within the control panel enclosure. The power output should give a minimum of 3 open/close operations. Full details are available from Northern Doors design office on request.

Balustrade/Side Walls
The side guides are fixed to a fire resistant structure of equal or greater fire resistance to that of the shutter. The structure may be formed from a variety of materials but can be formed as either part of the building structure or steel, clad in an approved fire resistant material. Full details are available from Northern Doors design office on request.

Fire Resistance
To BS 476: Part 22, Section 8: 4 hours stability and integrity (tested by the Loss Prevention Council). LPCP Approved and certified.
Consult with Northern Doors (UK) Ltd technical literature for details. Northern Doors can also provide a design and specification advisory service and it is recommended that they are consulted early in the design process.
