Folding Shutter Doors.
A range of galvanised folding shutter doors designed for wide openings with limited
headroom or locations where high wind load conditions prevail. Each door is custom
manufactured to suit most types of structural openings. A concrete or steelwork lintel is
required to support the sliding door track and a chase for the bottom track is required.
Dimensions:
Opening width (single doors) - 1200mm up to 12 metres. 4 pairs of leaves up to 31
pairs.
Opening width (double doors) - 2400mm up to 24 metres.
Opening height: Contact Northern Doors Technical Department for advice.
A four hour fire resisting version is available, tested to BS 476: Part 22 (1987) by the
Loss Prevention Council, which has been assessed up to 7 metres x 7 metres. Contact
Northern Doors Technical Department for further information.
Top Track Brackets
Fabricated from mild steel angle sections to suspend the shutter track from the lintel.
Finished in one coat of metal primer.
Soffit
Formed from galvanised sheet steel connected to the top track to seal the gap above the
shutter leaves between the track and the opening structure. Special extended soffits can
be manufactured to suit site conditions at extra cost.
Top Track
Formed from cold rolled galvanised steel strip into a lipped channel section ensuring
smooth running of the bearings within the track.
Closure Panels
Manufactured from galvanised sheet steel to seal the ends of the shutter to the jambs.
Special extended closure panels can be manufactured to suit site conditions at extra cost.
Pickets
Formed from cold rolled galvanised steel strip into a multiprofile section to form the
vertical framework of the shutter. The outer face forms a hinging section which supports
the shutter leaves and the inner face forms a guide channel in which the lattice slides
with self lubricated sliding bolts.
Lattice Bars
Formed from cold rolled galvanised steel strip into bars which are attached diagonally to
the pickets by sliding Teflon coated, self lubricating bolts, ensuring that the pickets
and leaves are equally spaced during operation of the shutter to provide maximum strength.
Door Leaves
Formed from galvanised steel strip into a vertical ribbed section 230mm wide. The
steel gauge varies to suit the size and location of the shutter.

Hinge Strip
Formed from galvanised steel strip to form a capped outer channel which allows the leaves
to hinge vertically and move with the picket during operation of the door.
Leading Edge
Formed from heavy gauge galvanised steel strip into a channel section which facilitates
attachment of pull handles and locking arrangements. Special leading edges can be supplied
of varying depth to accommodate cut outs for runway beams, etc.
Bottom Track
Formed from heavy gauge galvanised steel strip to form a multiprofile section, which when
set into concrete allows the mortar to completely encase the section thus achieving
optimum strength. Special fabricated bottom tracks can also be supplied when site
conditions dictate.
Handles
Bow type, cast aluminium, fitted to both sides of the leading edge.
Slam Post (single doors)
Formed from heavy gauge galvanised steel strip to form a vertical lipped channel to
secure the leading edge in the closed position. A galvanised sheet metal enclosure panel
can be provided to seal the slam post to the jamb, dependant on fixing condition.
Security
A hasp and staple is fitted as standard to receive padlock supplied by the Client.
Alternatively, a 4 lever hook bolt lock can be fitted.
Electric Operation (optional extra)
380/440V, 3 phase, 50 Hz fractional HP. motor with integral gearbox mounted on the top
track. The shutter is driven by endless roller chain with tensioner and pick-up arm to
leading edge. A torque limiter is fitted to ensure that the motor stops if obstructed
whilst closing or opening. Electrical equipment includes a reversing on line starter with
push buttons marked ‘open’, ‘close’ and ‘stop’. Isolator by
Client. Wiring is not included unless otherwise requested. Special motors and starters are
available to suit individual requirements.
Options:
Windows - refer to Northern Doors for options available.
Plastisol HP200 finish to shutter leaves.
Weather canopy.
Consult with Northern Doors (UK) Ltd technical literature for details. Northern Doors can
also provide a design and specification advisory service and it is recommended that they
