Northern Doors through their
unique patented product were able to satisfy the diverse architectural
requirement of the building concept by providing a total fire barrier between
each level which was unobtrusive and totally hidden when open. The
circumference of the atrium was some 66 metres( 230 feet ) in length,
Northern Doors completely protected the atrium by providing a pair of
shutters to each level as can be seen in the accompanying photograph.
The projects
represented part one of the largest shutter contracts undertaken in the
region and involved the manufacture of 26 Wayfinder shutters in total. The
shutters were installed into a high quality shopping centre where protection
against the spread of fire between floor levels was of paramount importance.
The design of the building centred around an elliptical atrium spanning 9
floor levels, each level needing protection against the spread of fire
The Dragon Centre is spread
over nine levels and over 840,000 sq ft. This shopping mall integrates the
functions of shopping, catering and entertainment under one roof. A unique
indoor roller coaster is also located in the Dragon Centre, namely the Sky
Train (operating from 12:00 noon - 9:00pm from Monday to Friday, 11:00
am-10:00 pm on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays) and provides visitors
with unparalleled pleasure. Another thrilling choice is the true-snow skating
rink with an area of 10,000 sq ft. The Dragon Centre won a design award
issued by Hong Kong Institute of Architects for its unique design.
